Some statistics
Underwear , previously concealed have become a real expression of fashion. In fact a survey done by the Fedération francaise de lingerie, shows that in 2005, spending on lingerie by French consumers aged over 15 amounted to nearly 2.6 billion euros (+1.3% compared to 2004).
Moreover the budget of lingerie in their expenditure on clothing increased slightly, by 19%, in 2005 compared to 18.8% in 2004, and remains the same for 2003 (19%).

Some Sixties Ads


Let’s start with old ads. Obviously if we are talking about old ads it means that we are going to talk about old women’s underwear. At the time, the main woman’s underwear caracteristic is the usefull aspect, then the quality. In fact women don’t really pay attention to details like the appearance , the material or coulors.
This is probably due to people’s mind. All about woman’s body in general is taboo. Women were not allowed to show their knees for exemple. Focus us on the ads attached make coments:
- first, the main brand at the time is SCANDALE. This name well underline and illustrate what we said just before about mentalities.
- the clothe is often drawn
- it’s rare to have picture with woman posing, it’s more often drawn as well.

Evolution of women underwear advertising
